Stimulate the senses with special effect inks
How do you differentiate your products from the competition? For example, through original packaging designs, by offering high-quality promotional materials and by marketing with collectible cards such as football stickers or sticker books. With our wide range of special effect inks we turn your products into real eye-catchers, which are collector's items in their own right thanks to their unique designs.
Applications for special effect inks
Our extensive machinery can create all kinds of printing with special effects. Think glitter ink, metallic ink, blacklight ink, thermo ink and pearlescent ink. Our extensive range of options, turns your printed matter into real collector's items. We don't just produce packaging, we convey the message with our printed matter. We also like to think along with you about original applications.
For example, how about high-gloss UV lacquers on uncoated material, which creates a contrast of matt and gloss and tactile texture on the surface. Or arouse your customers' curiosity by hiding your message under a peel-off lacquer. And how about a lacquer with scent application? Our special effect inks caress the senses and add uniqueness to your product!
We think in solutions. If your intended ink is not in our list, please take contact with us. We will be happy to see what we can do for you
various special effect inks
Rinse-off ink can be used for promotional purposes, among other things. By holding the printed material under the tap, stains, flats and texts disappear in the sink, and your important message appears. Ideal for introducing a new logo to a large audience, for example.
A special finish is achieved with non-slip lacquer. It is often used as an anti-slip layer on floor stickers to prevent slipping, or as an extra cachet on covers. It provides an attractive glossy, slightly thickening transparent layer with a very non-slip property.
Blacklight ink can be used in various situations. To secure valuables and parking tickets, but also as an extra check on prize locks and entrance tickets. In addition, this ink is a hit in entertainment venues where a blacklight lamp is present. With a good layout, it is possible to apply a virtually invisible print that lights up when the light is turned off and a blacklight lamp is ignited. Success guaranteed.
The ink is slightly glossy colourless and more or less invisible on most glossy substrates. As soon as blacklight light falls on the print, an illuminated print appears.
Colours and coverage
The ink is only available in a transparent glossy version and has no opaque properties. However, with good design, the ink can be applied 'invisibly' to a processed surface. This ensures additional surprising effects. Ask about the possibilities.
Paper selection advice
Blacklight ink can be used on almost all paper types and colours. But the ink cannot be laminated after printing. Our advisors can tell you all about the (im)possibilities of this surprising ink.
Bronzing ink is an intense metallic ink, which you may know from cigar boxes and bands. Previously, this ink produced an exceptionally high quality metallic due to environmentally unfriendly powdering. Silkscreen Holland applies the ink in a screen printing process. The ink is available in silver and gold. It gives packaging and brochures a very luxurious appearance.
Silkscreen Holland can apply transparent dry marker/wipe-out varnish over printed matter. You can then inscribe it with the special wipe-out pens*. You can easily erase the written text again. Ask the print specialist about the many possible applications.
* Note: practice shows that some brands of markers do not give the desired result on this varnish. The erasability is then limited. We therefore advise you to experiment ahead of time. You can request a model of the lacquer from one of our staff members. They will be happy to advise you on choosing the right pen.
Certified skin-friendly make-up ink is ideally suited for printing for a young target group. By touching the ink surface with a wet finger or cloth, the ink becomes soft and you can apply the ink to the face. Just as you do with make-up ink.
Many colours
The ink is available in many colours. The colour orange naturally does very well on printed material around international sporting events and King's Day. Ask our staff about the various possibilities and surprising applications.
A message, greeting or warning stands out even more in fluorescent colours. Our ink is characterised by particularly powerful and long-lasting printing. Colour fastness is superior to other printing techniques due to the extra layer thickness of our screen printing technique. The ink is available in different colours.
Scratch-and-sniff is one of the many applications in scent printing. Especially when a specific aroma is an important part of the product buying decision process. In this case, a scent leaflet with a scratch-and-sniff box is an effective way of mass marketing. This technique is also ideal for introducing a new fragrance to a large target group. With a scent leaflet, you combine the visual appeal of promotional printing with the opportunity to test the scent yourself.
How does it work?
With a light touch of finger or nail on the applied fragrance surface, the microcapsules break open and the fragrance is released. The surface can be used many times over a long period of time.
SilkScreen Holland uses transparent microcapsules with specific scents based on natural products for scratch-and-sniff. These capsules have no adverse effects on your printed matter and are protected by a strong, durable and odourless protective layer.
Conditions for the right fragrance
Many fragrances leave nothing to be guessed at. Nevertheless, we recommend printing an image of the subject/product along with the print, especially for less expressive fragrances. For faint odours, make sure that the smell of your offset ink does not dominate and use low-odour or even odour-free inks.
Glitter ink is one of our specialities. With a wide range, Silkscreen Holland is even the market leader in applying glitter to plano printed matter. Our experienced employees know the product inside out and will be happy to show you the possibilities. Because glitters give printed matter an extra party atmosphere.

Christmas cards, Greeting cards, Invitations, Party packaging
Colours
Besides the common glitter colours silver and gold, we also offer crystal and a wide range of colours. There are also numerous variations on these. For example, glitter that glows in the dark. Our specialists will be happy to think along with you.
We are all familiar with the self-adhesive glowing stars above a child's bed. But Silkscreen Holland can apply Glow in the dark ink to any type of material and all types of paper. This gives a surprising added value to brochures, posters and stickers, for example.
In the light of the sun or indoor lighting, glow in the dark ink 'charges'. As soon as the light goes out, or when it gets dark, the ink emits light in the dark for a limited time (20-30 minutes). We recommend that you apply this ink on a white or light background to optimise the perceptible light in the dark.
Gravel lacquer and sandpaper lacquer is also referred to as gravel ink. This varnish is characterised by a rough-feeling sandy relief with a slightly abrasive quality. This gives an extra dimension to printed matter that really has to be tangiblen. The smooth and highly thickening texture ensures that you experience photos of, for example, stone walls or gravel tennis courts as reality.
Combined with magnetic foil, an iron-on ink layer creates countless possibilities for presenting information. This combination is mainly used in pricing systems, displays and card holders. Paper and cardboard adhere to a magnetic underlayer.
Cold, but heartwarming. Those are the fridge inked messages. And this way, the message sticks especially well. The message or image appears as soon as the printed item has been left in the freezer for a few seconds, or by walking outside with it in the harsh freezing cold.
With this special ink, you can draw extra attention to your printed matter in all seasons. SilkScreen's experienced staff will be happy to give you more information. Feel free to ask them to help you get your message across even better.
An entirely new concept from SilkScreen is the high-gloss metallic imitation in many colours. Metallic inks are ideal for application on, for example exclusive packaging, greeting cards and retail promotions.
With relief ink, you realise a tangible and visible elevation on the paper, as if it had been blind embossed. For example, create the suggestion of sugar sprinkled on the paper. Or how about the effect of tangible drops of water along a cold glass of soda? A more practical application can be found in tactile safety pictograms for the blind and visually impaired on self-adhesive printing sheets of, for example, bottle labels. The paint is transparent.
With a pearl effect, you add shine to your printed matter. You can also use pearlescent ink (also called Pearle or Iriodin) to protect printed matter against copying, among other things. The pigments are available in many colours and versions
Who doesn't love a surprise? Hide a discount or a code in your printed material under a scratch-off layer. By scratching away this layer, the price, discount percentage or a code appears. Even personalisation is possible. This is sure to arouse the curiosity of your customers.
During offset printing, the 'surprise' can be applied. Over this, we print a layer in silver, gold or white. We can then also print this layer in various PMS colours, or with text or value patterns. You can still print over these scratch inks yourself in offset, or we can print over them in silkscreen.
With this ink, you achieve almost the same results as foil printing on coated quality paper. This ink is 100% opaque, but only available in silver.
A quick rub, or take the print between thumb and forefinger and you achieve the ideal temperature to make a message visible. Or a full-colour offset print. After some time, the surface closes again and the underlying print is invisible again. In this way, you are guaranteed to arouse interest among your customers!
As standard, the ink changes from opaque black (or colour) to fully transparent at 25 degrees Celsius. Higher temperatures are available on request.
Colours
The ink is available opaque only in black. A wide range of colours is possible, but these are transparent.
With wet & view ink, you apply a light-coloured, highly obscuring layer to your printed material. This makes the underlying print significantly less visible. After wetting the surface, visibility is optimal again.
Delivery specifications
The printing should be dry on delivery 100% and finished on our printing side with dispersion varnish. Avoid press varnish. To reduce legibility, the printing should hardly contrast under the wet & view ink. In practice, some will always be visible on the surface, coarse texts are even legible.
Restrictions
Due to the adhesion of the ink, the wet & view ink is not suitable for outdoor application or under humid conditions. Please note that the ink is absolutely not 100% opaque to be applied and will therefore always show through slightly. This makes the ink not suitable for lotteries.
A sunny greeting, or a warm message comes across even better by using sunlight-sensitive ink. This virtually transparent ink transforms to a dark colour when it comes into contact with sunlight. This application is particularly suitable for promotional campaigns and available in a number of colours.
A very sophisticated technique combining special printing patterns and lacquer. This creates depth in your image or a holographic illusion. This works best on a 'foil surface', bringing your message to life!
A unique thickening effect with a velvet feel. Available in various colours.
Want to leave an 'indelible' impression? You can write over this ink with a piece of chalk, like a blackboard. The ink has the look and feel of a blackboard, but is also available in a transparent version.
Brush over this relief ink with a match and it ignites. Compare it to the side of a matchbox. Extremely suitable for outdoor living printwork.
You can only see this invisible ink on a white background when you take a picture of it with a flash. An interesting technique that can be used in escape rooms and scavenger hunts, for example.
This ink gives printed matter a 'velvet' feel. It is a transparent varnish with a silky texture.
This interactive ink takes you straight back to your childhood. Think of drawing sheets on which there is no message until you rub it with a coin or pencil. Only then does the underlying image printed with magic pencil/coin ink reveal itself.
Protect your prints against discolouration or highlight images with UV varnishes. We have different variants in gloss and matt for both coated and uncoated versions.
